RUDOLF EB.ER
Rudolf Eb.er's rites and artefacts are portals to the traumatic expanses and abysses of human existence. Regarded as psychopomp or art-brut shamanist, his trail of work leads deep down to - and through - the nethermost regions of the human psyche. Rudolf Eb.er's research de-occults the psychic body through psycho-physical tests and trainings. He employs and combines abreactive and cleansing actionism with sonic rituals, psychoactive acoustics and close-up fieldrecordings of nature and decay, generating audio-environments into which he plants grotesque psycho-magic rituals and tantric exercises that trigger a nondual, higher awareness.
Rudolf Eb.er aka Runzelstirn & Gurgelstøck founded the Schimpfluch extreme and outsider artist collective in Zürich in 1987. Schimpfluch exponents are highly regarded for their unique and obscure aural and visual work; their confrontational, physically demanding performances and shock treatments remove the boundaries of the body and open up accesses to the collective unconscious.
Rudolf Eb.er lives and works in Japan.

Didier Faustino

Scramble Suit

CCA Kitakyushu Project Gallery
November 18  December 4, 2010
Monday to Saturday 10 am  5 pm
Closed on Sundays and National Holidays
Reception/ November 17, Wednesday  6 - 7:30 pm

CCA Kitakyushu Project Gallery presents the new project of Didier Faustino.

Didier Faustino's work is certainly concerned with the Here and Now, physical as it is with the body at its center. Tactile, concerned with stimulation of the senses, provoking... Far from being confined into any of the territories of Art or Architecture, he invites us to operate freely and construct our world starting from presence of our individual bodies in the world. Yet, he is aware that bodies are domesticated and tamed in created situations ultimately dealing with the political and the social nature. Hence his subversive stand invites us to reconsider the boundary of private and public, of personal and communal.

Born from collaboration with the French writer Virginie Despentes for her movie Bye-bye Blondie, Scramble Suit is the in-situ building of a fictional home. Scramble Suit also refers to the costume worn by officers in the book by Philip K Dick A Scanner Darkly, but this proposal for the CCA refers primarily to another novel by Dick Pay for the printer , when it comes to a world where nothing is created, but where everything is repeated until exhaustion ... one copy ... Transposed to the exhibition venue, Scramble Suit is a way for Faustino to experience the transition from fiction to reality as a form of depletion of the original.

This is also an opportunity to see Didier Faustino's new short film "Exploring Dead Buildings".

Didier Faustino stays at CCA Kitakyushu as Professor of the Research Program for two weeks in November 2010.

JOAN JONAS "Double Lunar Rabbits"

  Press Release

CCA Kitakyushu Project Gallery
February 1  March 5, 2010
Monday to Saturday  10 a.m.  5 p.m.
Closed on Sunday and National Holiday
Reception / January 30, Saturday, 5  7 p.m.
Artist Talk / 5 p.m.

CCA Project Gallery presents a new work by Joan Jonas, who lives and works in New York.

Joan Jonas (born in 1936, New York) was one of the first artists to integrate performance, video and the visual arts. These experiments contributed to paving the way for younger artists working in related genres. Focusing on these various media, Jonas continues to develop her work while exploring an ongoing concern with a narrative form. Often inspired by other cultures she combines aspects of theatricality and the language of ritual in her practice.

Her work and performance have been shown internationally including The Museum of Modern Art, New York (2009-10), Centre DArt Contemporain, Gene (2008) and MACBA-Museu dArt Contemporani de Barcelona (2007). She has also participated in numerous group shows in The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (2007), Venice Biennale (2009) and Bienal de S Paulo (2008).

In Double Lunar Rabbits, Jonas explores the image of the rabbit in the moon, so familiar in Japan. Finding a similar myth in the Aztec tradition she juxtaposes the two stories in an installation involving fragile sculptural forms as a stage for projected video and discarded props once used by imaginary performers.

The stories:
The Japanese story says: The monkey, the fox and the rabbit resolves to practice charity, believing deeds of great virtue would bring even greater reward. An old man begs for food: the monkey gathers fruit from the trees, the fox catches fish from the riverbank. The rabbit, who knows only how to gather grass instead offered its own body, throwing itself into a fire. The rabbit however was not burnt. The old man revealed himself to be a god, and, touched by the rabbits virtue drew the likeness of the rabbit on the moon for all to see. The Aztec story says: When Quetzalcoatl lived on earth as a man he started a journey. After walking a long time he thought he would die of hunger. Then, a rabbit grazing nearby offered himself as food to save his life. Quetzalcoatl, moved by the rabbits noble offering, elevated the rabbit to the moon. Then, lowering him back to earth, he told him, you may just be a rabbit, but everyone will remember you. There is your image in light for all men and for all times.

Joan Jonas stays at CCA Kitakyushu as professor of Research Program from January 5th to February 2nd, 2010.

Praed(Paed Conca + Raed Yassin)

Paed Conca(パド・コンカ)

Raed Yassin(ラエド・ヤシン)

PEDRO REYES "BABY MARX"

 投稿者:CCA KITAKYUSHUメール  投稿日:2009年 1月 7日(水)12時00分40秒 p2153-ipbf514fukuokachu.fukuoka.ocn.ne.jp
  <Press Release>

PEDRO REYES
"BABY MARX"

CCA KITAKYUSHU Project Gallery
January 10  February 27, 2009
Monday to Saturday  10 a.m.  5 p.m.
Closed on Sunday and National Holiday
Reception / January 9, 6  8 p.m.  Artist Talk / 6 p.m.

CCA Kitakyushu Project Gallery presents a new work by Pedro Reyes (b. 1972), who lives and works in Mexico City, Mexico.

The art of Pedro Reyes addresses the interplay between physical and social space, making tangible the invisible geometry of human relationships. Trained as an architect, Pedro Reyes often relies on models and drawing to prepare sculptures, functional objects and architecture. This design practice reveals a parallel interest in the formal properties of objects as well as the psychodinamics of public participation. His expanded notion of sculpture examines the cognitive contradictions of modern life, and the possibility of overcoming our particular crises by increasing our individual and collective degree of agency.

Pedro Reyes work has been shown at institutions throughout the world, including Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; the Reina Sofia, Madrid; P.S.1, New York; the Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna; Yokohama Triennale; the Shanghai Biennial; the Venice Biennale.

Counterfactual history attempts to answer what if questions. It seeks to explore historical incidents that did not happen or had an outcome which was different from that which did in fact occur. One step farther is to imagine the encounter of historical figures that didnt have the chance to meet but which we would like to bring together in a hypothetical debate. In similar fashion BABY MARX brings together the main philosophers that have advocated either for Socialism or Capitalism as a primer on the main politico-economical ideas that have shaped the World in the past two centuries. In this TV project each character (in its incarnation as a puppet) holds a different view and wishes to persuade the other of his own.

In the installation in CCA Kitakyushu the public will be able to see a theatrical teaser introducing the main characters of the story as well as the puppets that were made with a Japanese master puppet maker.

Pedro Reyes stays at CCA Kitakyushu as Professor of Research Program from December 15, 2008 to January 9, 2009.

The most unique art space in Fukuoka is Fukuoka Asian Art Museum in Hakata Riverain.
It is very easy to access to use city-subway, the building is connected with Nakasu-Kawabata Station.
http://faam.city.fukuoka.lg.jp/eng/home.html

There is an art gallery in same building (Hakata Riverain), named "Gallery Artlier".
"Museum City Project" has been directing this space with "Fukuoka City Foundation for Arts and Culture Promotion".
The Artlier is a kind of art information space, you will be able to get Fukuoka's local art information there.
There are some guide pamphlets ex. "Fukuoka Art Map 2007" (Jap/Eng) .

I hope you enjoy my city and art spaces here.
